He is risen! This weekend New City Church celebrated Easter and Pastor Steve Andres reminded us that Jesus is still doing miracles today!
John 21:25
Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
Matthew’s gospel took us back to Abraham, Luke’s gospel took us back to Adam. John reminds us that Jesus is not just a son of Abraham or a son of Adam, he is the eternal God with us.
BUT THERE’S STILL MORE.
All of John’s stories are meant to illuminate the character and nature of God, and to point us to trust in Jesus. From the wedding at Cana to the woman at the well, from the feeding of the 5,000 to the healing of a man born blind, John recounts the teaching and miracles as a faithful witness.
BUT THERE’S STILL MORE.
He gives special attention to the final days of Jesus’ life on earth, recording Jesus’ final moments with his disciples. He records his betrayal and trial, his suffering and crucifixion. He tells us that Jesus was forced to carry his own cross, and was hung until his last words when he declared, “It is finished.” Then he died.
BUT THERE’S STILL MORE.
John 20:1
Early on Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance.
In the darkness of Mary’s grief, she discovers the most wonderful truth: JESUS IS ALIVE! She tells the others, and Jesus appears to them to show them his hands and his side. He breathes on them and commissions them to forgive and restore. But then John tells us:
John 21:25
Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
What is John saying? What do we need to remember for our world today? What do we need to declare to the hopeless and hurting around us?
THERE’S STILL MORE!
Happy Easter!
