Send Someone Else

This weekend Pastor Joaquin Pardo continued our MOSES series with a message about learning to trust God enough to obey Him.

Exodus 4:12
“Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.”

Moses encounters God at the burning bush and he is called to confront Pharaoh and lead Israel out of slavery. But instead of immediately obeying, Moses responds with excuse after excuse. Through every objection, God keeps responding with the same command: Go!

1) Your insecurity doesn’t disqualify you.

Moses focused on his failures, weaknesses, and past mistakes. But God never told Moses to believe in himself. God reminded Moses of His presence: “I will be with you.”

Insecurity loses its power when we realize that it has never been about us being enough. It has always been about God being with us.

2) Your fear doesn’t cancel God’s call.

Fear filled Moses with “What if?” questions, so God responded by revealing His power. The ordinary shepherd’s staff became a serpent, the symbol of Pharaoh’s power, showing Moses that God had authority over the very thing he feared.

Fear is not overcome by running away from what scares us. Fear is overcome by trusting the Word of God enough to obey Him anyway.

3) Your weakness doesn’t surprise God.

Moses believed his weakness disqualified him from being used by God. But God responded with a question: “Who has made man’s mouth?” God reminded Moses that He was not absent when He created him.

2 Corinthians 12:9

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Sometimes God works through weakness so that no one mistakes the power with coming from us.

4) Your excuses don’t exempt you from obedience.

Eventually the real issue surfaced: “Please send someone else.”

The issue was no longer insecurity, fear, or weakness. The issue was obedience. Throughout the entire conversation, God kept repeating the same word: “Go.” The excuses kept changing, but the assignment did not.

The beauty of the Gospel is that eventually God did send someone else. His name is Jesus.

Unlike Moses, Jesus did not resist the call of God. Jesus willingly stepped into our brokenness, carried our sin, and became the better Moses who led us out of slavery and sin into a relationship with God.

Salvation has never been about us being enough. It has always been about Jesus being enough!
