Camp Rock families,
What a stellar day we had at Camp Rock! Your kids explored God’s design of the sun, moon, stars, and solar system during Day 4 of creation.
We read Genesis 1:14-19, discovering how God placed the lights in the heavens to separate day from night. And while God created light on Day 1, Day 4 was when He created the sun, moon, and stars as special lights with specific purposes!
We explored how God is the designer of the universe, focusing on Isaiah 40:26 and Matthew 5:14-16, learning that just like the moon reflects the sun’s light, we can reflect Jesus’ light to others around us.
Creation facts we discovered:
- The sun is 93 million miles away but so perfectly positioned that it takes exactly 8 minutes and 20 seconds for its light to reach us!
- Our sun could hold over 1 million Earths inside it and reaches 10,000 degrees at its surface
- The moon is 400 times smaller than the sun, but looks the same size because it’s also 400 times closer
- God knows each of the billions of stars by name!
Today’s highlights: Ask your child what they loved the most!
- Worship time singing “Till the Walls Come Down” and “God Made Everything”
- Object lessons with a giant balloon sun and mirror/flashlight demonstration showing how the moon reflects the sun’s light
- Compared the sizes of planets and stars
- Made planet necklaces and slime
- Games including Marshmallow Drop, Shaving Cream Chest Toss, and Hoppity Bouncing Ball Race
- Snack time with potato chips and cuties
Today’s Field Assignment: The Stargazer Report
Step outside tonight and observe God’s handiwork! What time did the sun set? Can you spot the moon? How many stars can you count? Challenge your family to discover which planet has the most moons! Campers will share their discoveries tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow we’re exploring Day 5 of creation – God’s amazing birds and sea creatures! Get ready for another adventure!
We love having your kids at Camp Rock!
