Death Is Undone

Have you heard the Good News? This weekend Pastor Steve Andres shared an Easter message and New City celebrated resurrection!

Luke 24:5-6
“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!”

The Gospel writer, Luke, gives us the first recorded dialogue after the resurrection. Heaven asks earth a question: “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” Too many people are looking for the right thing but in the wrong place.

1) You can’t REVIVE the dead.

The tomb where the women went to find Jesus could offer neither hope nor life. Until we acknowledge our powerlessness and spiritual poverty, we will make the mistake of trying to revive something that is already dead.

2) You can’t REFORM the dead.

The women went to the tomb with spices to freshen up something that was decomposing. Christianity does not require us to cover up our failures or wounds. The angel delivers the news that frees them to leave their hopelessness behind: HE HAS RISEN!

3) You have to RAISE the dead, and only God can do that.

The Good News of resurrection is so impossibly good that many struggle to find the courage to believe it. But why keep looking for life where there is only death? Jesus is alive, and his resurrection means that DEATH IS UNDONE!
