What is your anchor? This weekend Pastor Steve Andres continued our BIG DREAMS series with a message about TRUST from the life of Abraham.
Genesis 15:7-8
God said to Abram, “I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it.” But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?”
Abram received a promise from God, but after years of waiting, Abram needs reassurance from God that the promise will come to pass.
1) Faith only gets stronger with exercise.
Faith is a muscle that gets stronger the more we use it. The Bible says that Abram believed the Lord, and God considered him righteous because of that.
It is one thing to believe in the Lord, it is another thing to believe the Lord.
Faith is obedience, and obedience is faith. When we trust God, we will act on his word.
2) God’s plan is always bigger than ours.
Abram is concerned about the child that is promised to him. God takes him outside to show him that his plan is bigger than one child.
When we are thinking days and dollars, God is thinking nations and generations.
What is the ceiling on your trust? Whatever we are worried about God is already working on!
3) Even sincere faith still needs help.
Abram asks God, “How can I know?” Even though he believed, his faith still needed help. God’s response is astounding.
When God makes covenant with Abram, God guarantees that he will uphold his promise even when Abram fails. This covenant pointed to the day when Jesus would pay the price for our sins, so that we could, by grace, be heirs of God’s promises!
Hebrews 6:19
This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.
