Do you know that you are a miracle? This weekend Pastor Steve Andres revisited our TAKE CARE series with a message about stewarding God’s gifts.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
Your body is a gift from God, entrusted to you to manage with wisdom. What do we need to know if we want to take care of our bodies?
1) We are confused.
In our culture, the thinking is that what we do with our bodies is our business. The Bible says that what we do with our bodies is our business AND God’s business.
Your body is a temple, not a trash can.
God’s wisdom helps us live in a healthy way between neglect of our bodies, or obsession with our bodies.
2) We are coping.
Many people misuse their bodies to cope with brokenness, fear and insecurity, never addressing the root causes. But trying to solve a problem without ever addressing the cause of the problem is a sure way to create more problems.
3) We get caught up.
When we live in unhealthy patterns of coping, we get caught up in habitual sins and addictive behaviors. The result isn’t freedom, it’s captivity.
1 Corinthians 6:12
You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.
Honest, sincere and open relationships are the gifts that God gives so that we can move together toward freedom.
4) We CAN be free.
Underneath so many unhealthy habits and patterns are false views of the world and lies about God. Freedom begins when we align ourselves with the truth about who God is and who we are.
The Good News is that Jesus gave his body so that we could be free to serve God in wisdom and health!
