Take Care of Your Time

How are you investing your time? This weekend Pastor Steve Andres continued our TAKE CARE series with a message about the gift of time.

Genesis 2:2
Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

When God finished creating, he didn’t bless a place, he blessed a day. How can we manage God’s gift of time?

1) Take care of your time. It is limited.

Every one of us is given the same amount of time in our day. Wisdom is found when we acknowledge that time is limited.

Psalm 90:12
Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

When I look at my calendar I have a choice. Where will I invest my time?

2) Take care of your time. It is your most valuable gift.

Not all moments are created equal. There is a hierarchy to time.

Our greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding at things that doesn’t really matter.
D.L. Moody

Recognizing holy moments with God, with family, with friends is a skill that we develop with practice.

3) Take care of your time. Learn to celebrate ENOUGH.

The heart of Sabbath is a contentment in the goodness of God and his gifts.

4) Take care of your time. Be present in the moment.

When we are constantly striving, we miss the goodness and gifts of God in our here and now.

Wherever you are, be all there. Live to the hilt every moment you believe to be the will of God.
Jim Elliot

Managing your time with wisdom means remembering God’s faithfulness and resisting our addiction to accomplishment.

5) Take care of your time. Rest is a gift.

We were made for work and made for rest. Our sin is rooted in our clamoring to do for ourselves what only God can do.

Hebrews 4:9-10
There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.

Jesus did the work so that we can live our days FROM approval, not FOR approval. This rest is the key to being a wise steward of every minute he gives us!
